The Battle for Semi-Finals and Scholarships is the only opportunity for individual students to qualify for the MECC Championship Semi-Finals before December.
This is a one-round, high-stakes online competition offering early qualification—and access to exclusive scholarships.
Participation is by invitation only.
Students can earn an invitation by achieving any of the following:
Placing in the Top 5 in the Individual Varsity Level of a monthly Weekend Battle
Earning the Case Explorer Badge (by September 21)
Earning the Excel Athlete Badge

The battle takes place online, alongside the MEWC Online Qualification Rounds. All invited students will need to complete a registration form in September to select their time slot:
Saturday, September 27, 2025 – 7:00 UTC
(Friday, September 26 – 12:00 AM Pacific)
Saturday, September 27, 2025 – 16:00 UTC
(Saturday, September 27 – 9:00 AM Pacific)
Each slot will feature a different case and the competition will take one hour.
The competition will use the Excel Esports Online platform (not ExPrep). Access instructions will be sent via email based on your registration form, but we recommend joining now and trying some free Excel Esports games to get familiar with how the platform works.
The best way to get ready is to review and practice with previous Weekend Battle cases—choose Varsity-level cases, and keep in mind that this Battle is also a Qualification Round for MEWC, so expect a higher level of difficulty.
You can also try some of the Pro cases from last year, available on ExPrep in the Vault folder – 2024. Look for the ones titled Road to Las Vegas.
And remember, our YouTube channel and Tutorials page offer a large number of walkthrough videos to support your preparation.

To participate, students must meet standard MECC Championship eligibility:
Be at least 18 years old on the day travel begins
Be enrolled in a degree-granting institution
Eligibility will be confirmed through the registration form.

Students competing in the Microsoft Excel World Championship (MEWC) can have their result count for both events—as long as they purchase a MEWC ticket in advance.
The Top 45 students will qualify for the MECC Championship Semi-Finals (64-player round), held on Day 2 in Las Vegas.
To participate in the Semi-Finals, all qualified students must have a ticket to the Active Cell Training Camp.
Top 10 Students Will Receive:
Paid registration for the Active Cell Training Camp
Travel scholarship, reimbursed after the Championship upon submission of receipts:
Up to $850 for North American students
Up to $1,850 for international students
Students Ranked 11–45:
May apply for shared accommodations
May apply for scholarships covering the Active Cell registration fee
(available only if they are not attending as part of a school team; limited approvals; details sent directly)
Game-Specific Allocations
Qualification slots are distributed proportionally based on participation in each game.
Example:
Game A with 100 participants may send 36 students
Game B with 30 participants may send 9 students

Even if you don’t advance through this event, you’re welcome to attend the MECC Championships in Las Vegas and compete in the Last Chance Qualification Round.
This round is open to all students and faculty members attending the Active Cell Training Camp, and serves as the final chance to qualify for:
– MECC Championship Finals (students only)
– MEWC Finals (students and faculty)
